Job Management
The automation of routine tasks is key to managing the distributed enterprise. The time of IT staff is too valuable to be spent performing tasks such as routine data backup, managing temporary file space, or monitoring login failures. However these operations are critical to the functions of the enterprise and must be performed reliably. Also the system should be able to prioritize background tasks, taking advantage of unused resources, and minimizing the impact of these tasks on on-line processing. When exceptional circumstances occur, there needs to be flexibility in handling them, or sufficient intelligence to call for human intervention.

Desktop Management
In large networks or physically distributed smaller ones management of the users workstations present considerable challenges. Ensuring that users receive the latest versions and updates to the software required for their work requires tools that can determine the configuration of the users machines and install the appropriate software. However installation of software must not tie up valuable resources such as network bandwidth when it is needed for the normal work of the enterprise. When physical access to machines is either difficult or impossible system administrators still need be able to resolve issues on those remote machines.

Hitachi's JP1 desktop management products, provide the tools to automate software distribution and inventory management, and can provide remote control of users machines for administrators and help desk staff. Multilevel scheduling of updates minimizes bandwidth requirements and, by linking with systems inventory, ensures smooth rollout of software in a timely manner. Availability Management
The applications run within an enterprise are at the core of the business, and as such are essential to its success. With more and more operations becoming available 24x7 the business applications need to be constantly monitored and managed, but IT staff cannot be dedicated solely to this task.

A solution to this dilemma can be found with Hitachi's JP1 availability management tools.

Integrated Management
Having all the tools available to manage the enterprise is is of limited use if each tool has a unique interface and does not inter operate with the others. In addition to the overhead in training required for each system, separate tools can become unmanageable in large distributed enterprises, due to the complexity of the systems involved.

While Hitachi's JP1 software can be deployed as standalone solutions for smaller organizations, integrated management provides the flexibility and scaleable required to manage the largest systems.
